MISSION

Gabriel Homes exists to enable the adults we serve to open their doors to independence. Our residential placement puts a roof over their heads and, more importantly, a solid foundation under their feet. We offer the support and encouragement they need to develop their full potential.

A BRIEF HISTORY

Gabriel Homes was founded in 1982 in the Catholic community of Arlington, Virginia and in 1985 became chartered as a non-sectarian, non-profit organization.   We take our name from the angel Gabriel, who announced that God would have a new home... dwelling among His people. 

  • Opened its first home in 1985 and by 2008 had grown to seven homes (single-family houses, townhouses and condos) with 23 residents in Reston and Herndon.
  • Accepts residents without regard to race, religion or origin.
  • Meets the needs of its residents through a staff-to residents ratio of close to appropriate to individual needs.
  • Is licensed by the (Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS)), formerly known as Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Service (DMHMRSAS).
  • Undergoes regular inspections by local and state officials to insure that all health and safety regulations are met.
  • Gets its revenue from three main sources: A contract for services with the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board; monthly client fees; gifts, contributions and an annual charity golf tournament.
  • Devotes 91% of its revenues to its programs, with administrative costs accounting for only 9%.
